Note On Other Course Materials:

Your instructor will be giving you articles to read on a variety of topics to check your pronunciation and for class discussion about American culture/society/history. Your instructor will be showing you a variety of videos of recorded lectures, CDs, as well as Internet sources to help your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

By the end of the semester you will be expected to have learned approximately 100 idioms during the semester. You will give 4 oral presentations and possibly 2 group presentations. You will be given numerous listening quizzes as well as idiom quizzes on a weekly basis, which will not be announced.

Your articles for your presentations will come from articles found on the Internet (US News &World Report, Time Magazine, Newsweek, NPR, Fresh Air, the MC Library Data Base of Article, etc.)

—Attendance: Please come to class on time. If you arrive late, quietly take a seat. If you arrive continuously late, you will be asked to speak to the instructor.

If a student is presenting, DO NOT LEAVE the room, unless it is an emergency.

This is a tentative schedule of activities. Any changes will be announced. Assignments will consist of Listening and Speaking as well as Reading and Writing activities. Collaborative work will be announced weekly.


Dates to Keep Track of:

Sept. 9th Last day to drop with a refund.
Sept. 23rd Last day to drop with no grade or to change to audit.
Nov. 18th Last day to drop in person with a grade of W.
