Privacy Gival Press, LLC respects an individual's privacy. Information that is provided to Gival Press, LLC is not shared with any other agency, unless with the permission of the individual, as in the case of purchases.

Book Returns

Gival Press, LLC will refund an individual's purchase when an individual returns the book, if he/she is not satisfied with the purchase.


Returned Checks

Returned checks are processed via FEDChex. A fee of approximating $25.00 may be charged for returned checks.


General Questions

Q: When was Gival Press, LLC, whose imprint is Gival Press, established?

A: Gival Press, LLC was founded in 1998 by Robert L. Giron as an incorporated entity in the Commonwealth of Virginia.


Q: What is its mission?

A: To publish quality works of literature by individuals from different walks of life in English, Spanish, and French, and thereby encourage and promote the reading and writing in the three languages.

We publish the work of poets and authors who demonstrate quality and whose work has a message, be it philosophical or social.


Q: Is Gival Press, LLC a vanity press or subsidized by its authors?

A: No.

All contest entries can be mailed to us via regular USPS (please make sure the envelopes/packages are sealed securely) or they can be submitted to us via www.givalpress.submittable.com.

Q: What are the contests that Gival Press, LLC sponsors?

A: There are currently 2 different poetry contests, 1 short story contest, and 1 novel contest. The complete guidelines to these contests are posted on the appropriate contest page. Please note that as of 2017, only the Gival Press Oscar Wilde Award and the Gival Press Short Story Award will continue to be given annually. The Gival Press Novel Award will be given in odd-ending years, starting with 2019; the Gival PresS Poetry Award will be given in even-ending, starting with 2018.


Annual Awards:

The Annual Gival Press Oscar Wilde Award for the poem which best reflects Gay / Lesbian / Bisexual / Transgender life. The award has a purse of $100.00, with a reading fee of $5.00 per poem, plus publication on the Gival Press website. Deadline: Always June 27th.

The Annual Gival Press Short Story Award for the best original literary short story (not a translation) in English of approximately 5,000 to 15,000 words. The award has a purse of $1,000.00, with a reading fee of $25.00, plus publication on the Gival Press website. Deadline: Always August 8th.


Alternating Years for Manuscripts (Poetry / Novel):

2018:
The Gival Press Poetry Award for the best poetry ms of 45 pages or more. This award has a purse of $1,000.00, with a reading fee of $20.00, plus publication by Gival Press. Deadline: Always Dec. 15th.


2019:
The Gival Press Novel Award for the best original literary novel (not a translation) in English of approximately 30,000 to 100,000 words. The award has a purse of $3,000.00, with a reading fee of $50.00, plus publication by Gival Press. Deadline: Always May 30th.



Ms Queries

Q: Does Gival Press, LLC accept faxes?

A: No. Due to unsolicited faxes, Gival Press, LLC will only accept faxed material it has requested.


Q: Does Gival Press, LLC publish works only by certain individuals?

A: No. Mss are reviewed and chosen on the basis of the content, in conjunction with the mission of Gival Press, LLC.

Q: Does Gival Press, LLC accept unsolicited manuscripts?

A: No. We prefer to be queried first before any ms is forwarded to us. Mss are not returned unless they are accompanied with an SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope).

A: Does Gival Press, LLC accept simultaneous submissions?

A: During these times, many authors submit work to more than one venue simultaneously; however, we expect to be informed if this is the case.

Q: Does Gival Press, LLC accept email queries?

A: We prefer that you use the Portal via: www.givalpress.submittable.com.

If you send an email directly to: givalpress@yahoo.com, we actually prefer that authors query us initially via email; see below; please note the reading period has been closed until further notice (usually it is from May 15 to August 15); when this is changed, a notice will be posted:

We DO NOT accept attached files due to viruses on the Internet. One can embed poetry, stories, etc. in the email; later one can provide a hard copy.

Mss that are forwarded to Gival Press, LLC in hard copy because of a current contest are the exception to this policy. Please follow the guidelines to the current contests.


What to Include with a Query (by email):

For Poetry Mss:

Please query first and include the following:
a letter of introduction, a synopsis of the type of poetry, some sense of audience/market for your mss, and a short bio of yourself (training, past publications, etc.), and your contact information.


For Fiction or Nonfiction Mss:

Please query first and include the following:
a letter of introduction, a synopsis of your ms (a plot of the ms, characters, climax), a sample chapter or two (please include an SASE, if you want this returned), some sense of audience/market for your ms, and a short bio of yourself (training, past publications, etc.), and your contact information.

If the editors of Gival Press are interested in your query, they will usually try to get in touch with you via email for further information or requests.
